Pre-College
Programs

Meet a soaring seahawk
What do we do?

The Pre-College Program provides opportunities for middle and high school students to understand their potential, learn about, aspire to and prepare for college success. Students gain academic, career, cultural and social enrichment, and other skills necessary for success in the 21st century.

The office partners with school administrators, parents and the community to strengthen the pipeline of support for students and promote a career and college-bound culture.  UNCW students, employed as College Access Coaches, facilitate group sessions, answer questions about college expectations and provide ongoing motivation to participants.

Summer enrichment activities offer youth educational and social opportunities while exploring college and career options.  In conjunction with NC GEAR UP, the Pre-College Program hosted Water Works, a 4-day residential program for 36 students from across the state.   The students engaged in hands-on, feet-wet experiences and prepared peer-education presentations emphasizing the importance of conservation.   View a slide show of the 2008 Water Works summer program!
