Poverty Simulations

Faculty from the Watson College will be offering two Poverty Simulations during the spring semester to help pre-service teachers build the skills and competencies needed to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse population of students.

This is the sixth year the program has been offered. To date, more than 2,000 UNCW students and community members have participated in the simulation, which provides an opportunity to get a glimpse into some of the challenges families living in poverty face every day.

Spring simulations will be offered on Wednesday, Feb. 25 and Thursday, March 19. Both events will be held in Room 162 from 5:30-8 p.m.

Twenty volunteers are needed for each simulation. Students who have already participated are eligible to volunteer. To register as a participant or volunteer, visit

The Poverty Simulation on Wednesday, February 25 is now FULL for participants. The only way that students can now attend is by volunteering.
