English as a Second Language (ESL) is a growing need in the state and nation. Since 2011, the ELMS Project has provided tuition reimbursement to WCE students seeking ESL add-on licensure. Funded through the Department of Education’s Office of English Language Acquisition, the ELMS Project seeks to build academic support for English Language Learners (ELLs) in mainstream classrooms by increasing the number of content area teachers in North Carolina with ESL preparation. It’s a great way for WCE pre-service teachers to increase their expertise and marketability.

The program will only be available through August 2016 when the five-year ELMS Project grant ends. For more information visit http://www.uncw.edu/ed/elms/preservice.html or contact elms@uncw.edu
