Define Your Goals and Select a Program
UNCW offers more than 500 education abroad programs. There are many factors to consider when choosing the right program for you. Things to be thinking about include: location, desired travel destinations, foreign language proficiency, exchange vs. study abroad programs, academic offerings, cost and preferred duration of program and eligibility. Eligibility varies by program but minimally one must:
- Have at least sophomore standing at time of participation (first-year students may participate on select faculty-led programs)
- Be a degree-seeking student at time of participation
- Have at least a 2.5 cummulative GPA at time of application
- Be in good judicial standing
You may browse programs here. Once you have attended a Study Abroad Information Session you may also make an individual advising appointment with the Assistant Director or the Director for Education Abroad, by stopping by the office or by calling (910) 962-3685. We can help you consider program options, discuss concerns and help make study abroad a reality for you!
Contact Study Abroad Ambassadors for the student perspective from these volunteer study abroad returnees. They are available to help with choosing a program and preparing for your time abroad.
Frequently Asked Questions
Apply
Once you have selected a program you are ready to apply.
Prepare
Make sure you have all your paperwork complete. Once we have endorsed your education abroad application, you will attend a pre-departure orientation that will address a variety of issues to prepare you to have a smooth and successful experience abroad. Pre-departure preparations include obtaining a passport and often a student visa. If you don't already have a passport you can apply for one at the passport office within Fisher University Union. Make sure you determine if a visa is required and follow any guidelines provided. Prior to departure complete a Transient Study Form (PDF) (if applicable) and refer to the International-UNCW Credit Conversion Guide. (PDF)
