Steps to Study Abroad

1. Attend an Information Session

The first step is to attend a Study Abroad Information Session. These are offered twice weekly in the Office of International Programs (OIP) in Friday Annex, and are presented to all UNI 101 classes beginning in Fall 2013. We will provide all the information you need to get started finding the right program for you. Topics covered include program offerings, qualifications, features, benefits and the application process.

2. Check Our Website

UNCW offers more than 500 education abroad programs so choosing the right program can be daunting at first, but we’re here to help guide you through the process. ┬áThere are many factors to consider when choosing the right program for you including. location, cost, and academic offerings. Do you prefer the countryside or the city? Are you interested in total cultural immersion or academic research? Think about how far outside your comfort zone you’re willing to travel and we’ll help you find a program that fits your needs!

You may browse programs here. And be sure to check out our Frequently Asked Questions as well.

3. Meet with an Education Abroad Advisor

Once you've attended an information session, you can schedule a one on one apointment with one of our education abroad advisors for more specific information.

You can make an appointment by either contacting our office at 910-962-3685 or stopping by our office, located in 118 Friday Annex.

Our education abroad advisors are here to help you find the right program that fits your academic, financial, and personal needs.

4. Apply

Once you have selected a program you are ready to apply. Be sure to adhere to the deadlines posted on our website.

5. Preparation

Once we have endorsed your education abroad application, you will attend a pre-departure orientation to prepare you to have a smooth and successful experience abroad. If you do not already have a passport, apply for one as soon as possible through Passport Services in Fisher University Union. Make sure you determine if a visa is required and follow any guidelines provided by OIP or your program provider. Prior to departure, complete a Transient Study Form (PDF) (if applicable) and refer to the International-UNCW Credit Conversion Guide. (PDF)
