“The primary mission of the Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid (OSFA) is to assist prospective and enrolled students and their families in securing the most suitable financial aid as the student pursues a degree or certificate at UNCW. Through our outreach efforts, we support the university's mission, including the commitment to public service and the encouragement of access to college.”
The Watson College of Education is pleased to announce scholarships available to qualified students. A committee of Watson College of Education faculty will recommend recipients for each scholarship by the early part of May - each academic year. Scholarships are awarded for the following fall and spring semesters. Scholarships are reevaluated on an annual basis.
STAR (Scholarship Team in Action to Recruit) Scholarship Program
“The STAR (Scholarship Team in Action to Recruit) Scholarship Program provides monies to support mathematics and science majors and career changers who are seeking teacher certification and agree to teach in high need schools and districts in North Carolina. The program gives up to $10,000 awards for prospective teachers during the completion of their last year(s) of coursework. This NSF supported program began in September 2009 and is funded for five years.”
Graduate Assistantships are available and are awarded on a competitive basis each academic year. Graduate assistants are chosen from among the candidates who apply by the March 15th deadline for the Summer cohort. Students interested in being considered for an assistantship should check the appropriate box on the application form and should submit a short description of their intent in addition to the other application materials.
