Cultural Arts Gallery to Exhibit Work of Alumni Artists

Monday, May 13, 2013

The Art Gallery at the UNCW Cultural Arts Building will showcase Christopher Alexander & Ashton Durham: Woodcuts from May 23 through Aug. 23. The exhibit opens with an interactive, public “Print Fest” at 5:30 p.m., May 23. Alexander and Durham plan to display woodcuts and the blocks used to make them during the print fest. They hope that allowing viewers to participate in the process will help them further understand the technical elements of woodcut prints.

A closing reception will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 22. Both the print fest and reception are free and open to the public. The gallery will be open Monday through Thursday from noon until 4 p.m. during the summer.

Both Alexander and Durham are recent UNCW Studio Art alumni. In addition to the Fall Senior Exhibition at the UNCW Art Gallery in Fall 2012, both their work has been featured in exhibitions and publications. Alexander’s work has recently been featured at Bottega Art Bar & Gallery, Rx Restaurant, as well as in a solo exhibition in the Ann Flack Boseman Gallery as a Boseman Scholarship recipient in 2012. Durham’s work has been published in UNCW’s Flash Fiction: Search and Discover, Rufus Wainwright’s Out of the Game music video and photo book, as well as taking second place in the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Photo Contest in 2011.
