UNCW's Annual Undergraduate Research and Creativity Showcase highlights student research from a variety of disciplines.

Thursday, April 12, 2012

The University of North Carolina Wilmington will open its seventh annual Undergraduate Research and Creativity Showcase at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 18 in Randall Library.

Sponsored by UNCW's Center for Support of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (CSURF) and the Honors College, the posters represent research from a variety of academic disciplines across all of the university's colleges and schools. More than 100 posters describing faculty-mentored undergraduate research will remain on display through April 27.

Supporting opportunities to engage undergraduates in research is a goal of the university that reinforces the importance of applied learning, allowing students to apply their classroom studies in real-world situations, according to UNCW Chancellor Gary L. Miller.

"A key value of UNCW is the importance of collaborations between faculty and students," Miller said. "The best learning occurs during those interactions."

This event is one of more than 40 that are planned throughout the month of April in honor of Miller's installation April 20 as the fourth chancellor of UNCW. Installation events showcase the diverse extent of teaching, research and service underway at UNCW, with involvement by numerous students, faculty and staff members. CSURF and the Honors College will sponsor the opening reception.  Attendees are invited to the first floor of Randall Library, to meet the student researchers and Chancellor Miller.
