Local Startups Throw Fast Pitches to Investors April 18 at UNCW
Wednesday, April 11, 2012
Five regional entrepreneurs will compete for the attention of investors with "rocket pitches" at the bi-annual University of North Carolina Wilmington Rocket Pitch Event 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18 in the Burney Center.
Entrepreneurs will have eight minutes to demonstrate their product, explain their business model and provide a growth plan through fast-paced presentations with the goal of gaining financial support. Product demonstrations and a reception will follow the event. A sewer monitoring system and a new facelift alternative are among the business concepts that will be pitched. The event offers UNCW students a glimpse into the world of high-growth startups.
Hosted by the new UNCW Entrepreneurship Center LLC, the event is designed to help innovative local companies campaign for investment resources from backers across the region. Since the first event in 2009, UNC Wilmington rocket pitches have resulted in more than $5 million dollars of investments into the pitch companies and the creation of more than $100,000 in customer/client contracts.
Space is limited to 200 people, and seats fill up quickly. The community can register early online or by calling 910.962.2237. For more information, visit the Entrepreneurship Center at http://uncwec.org or http://facebook.com/uncwec.
The event is one of more than 40 planned throughout April in honor of the installation of Chancellor Gary L. Miller, who will be officially installed as the fourth chancellor of UNCW on April 20. Installation events showcase the diverse extent of teaching, research and service underway at UNCW, with involvement by numerous students, alumni, faculty and staff.
Media are invited to take advantage of multiple visual and interview opportunities during the event.
