The Cameron School of Business at the University of North
Carolina Wilmington named its 2012 Alumni of the Year today.
Carlton Fisher '83, Jim Parker '98 MBA and Jason
Wheeler '99, '03 MBA were recognized at an alumni breakfast this
during the 30th annual Business Week event.
Carlton Fisher, a third generation Wilmingtonian, graduated from UNCW in 1983 with a B.S. in business. He joined the family real estate business at Coastal Realty Co., specializing in commercial real estate and development. The Fisher family has strong ties to the university. Fisher's parents, Herb and Sylvia Fisher, attended Wilmington College and have been major university supporters. His wife, Julie Elkins Fisher, graduated in 1983 and their son, Mason, will be a freshman at UNCW in 2013.
Fisher is a past president of the Wilmington Board of Realtors, past president of the Wilmington East Rotary Club and past chair of the UNCW Foundation Board of Directors. He currently serves on the UNCW Board of Trustees.
Jim Parker is director of finance-internal audit with ConAgra Foods in Omaha, Neb., and has audit responsibility and oversight for ConAgra's snacks, flour mills, seasonings and international lines of business. Parker holds a B.S. in accounting from the University of Maryland and was the Outstanding MBA Student at UNCW. He is a certified public accountant, certified internal auditor, certified management accountant and certified information systems auditor.
Parker's past work experience includes finance audit manager in the internal audit department of Federal-Mogul Corporation in Southfield, Mich.; senior manager in the Risk Advisory Services practice of Ernst & Young's Detroit office; and manager with the Internal Audit Services group of Deloitte & Touche in Chicago. He began his audit career with the Marine Corps Nonappropriated Fund Audit Service, retiring as an audit chief after more than 20 years of active service.
Jason Wheeler is CEO and wealth consultant for Pathfinder Wealth Consulting in Wilmington. He began his financial career in 1999 with Morgan Stanley and Investors Financial Group.
Wheeler graduated magna cum laude from UNCW in 1999 with a B.S. in finance. He went on to graduate as Outstanding MBA Student from UNCW in 2003. In 2004, he received the university's Young Alumnus of the Year Award. He is a past chairman of the UNCW Alumni Association Board, has served on numerous university committees, including chancellor and athletic director searches, and has taught corporate finance in the Cameron School of Business. Currently, he serves on the UNCW Foundation Board of Directors.
Wheeler is a member of the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and is an alumnus of their Leadership Wilmington program. In 2012, he was elected to the Cape Fear Community College Foundation Board.
