UNC Wilmington, North Carolina PTA Present Emerging Leaders Conference March 17

An Emerging Leaders Conference to strengthen leadership skills and engage educators in empowering networking opportunities will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 17 in Education Building Room 162 on the University of North Carolina Wilmington campus. Join emerging leaders from across North Carolina to address improving and promoting family engagement, teacher preparedness and strategies for outreach to support student success. Parents, educators and all individuals who care about student welfare are invited to attend to discuss and interact with statewide and local leaders.
The conference is sponsored and organized by UNCW's Watson School of Education's Outreach Alliance and Dropout Prevention Coalition in conjunction with the North Carolina PTA. Speakers include Kathy R. Fox, UNCW associate professor in the Department of Elementary, Middle Level and Literacy Education; Carrie Jasper, U.S. Department of Education director of Outreach to Parents and Families, Office of Communications and Outreach; and Ann McColl, NC legislative director for the NC State Board of Education.
Conference workshops will explore historical perspectives, current issues and new ideas in Exceptional Children and Advocacy with attorney Ashley Perkinson of Perkinson Law Firm, Teaching and Learning in NC with Michael Martin of the NC Department of Public Transportation's Office of Policy and Strategic Planning, and Champions of Play: You Can Be One, Too! with Michael Knowles, national coordinator of WATCH D.O.G.S (Dads of Great Students).
Parents, educators, school administrators and community leaders are invited to attend.
On-line registration is $10 and includes morning coffee, lunch, document bag and materials.
