Local UNCW Alumni Honored for Contributions to the Community

Three local citizens were honored with 2012 University of North Carolina WilmingtonDistinguished Alumni Awards. Each award recipient was recognized by the UNCW Alumni Association and their peers for their hard work and dedication to UNCW and in the Wilmington community.
Shanda Williams Bordeaux '92 is the UNCW Distinguished Alumnus recipient. Currently a high school counselor at the Wilmington Christian Academy, Bordeaux received her degree in English from the College of Arts and Sciences. She is active in the UNCW community and has served on several committees and boards, is a past chair of the UNCW Alumni Association and former president of the Seahawk Club. Bordeaux was recognized previously as a lifetime member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Justin Queen '04 is the UNCW Young Alumnus award recipient. Upon graduating from the university with a degree in communication studies, Queen founded the Wilmington-based Blu Zeus Interactive Marketing. Queen is an active member of the UNCW Entrepreneurship Advisory Board. He regularly speaks to classes in the Cameron School of Business and in the Department of Communication Studies.
Ann Sherman-Skiba was recognized as this year's Distinguished Citizen of the Year. Sherman-Skiba has devoted her time to the Wilmington community as a volunteer on the UNCW Board of Visitors and on the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Board of Advisors. She contributes hours of support to the Cameron Art Museum. Sherman-Skiba is an active supporter of the university's history and music programs.
The three recipients received their awards at a reception at Kenan House and were recognized during the annual Homecoming parade and men's basketball game on Feb. 4.
