EDITORIAL, May 10: Deep bonds in community motivate UNCW donors
A week before applauding its largest commencement class, UNCW celebrated its biggest-ever corporate donation -- a $5 million pledge from Quality Chemical Laboratories, its founder, Dr. Yousry Sayed, and his wife, Linda. The gift will support the development of pharmaceutical science programs, as well as general chemistry.

UNCW's Clements wins Excellence in Teaching Award
Dr. Caroline “Carrie” Clements has been a professor of psychology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington for nearly 20 years. Receiving a 2017 Award for Excellence in Teaching from the University of North Carolina Board of Governors is a “once-in-a-lifetime” experience, she said.

Mandated UNC lab-school project getting a tune-up from legislative backers

Embedded in the state’s fiscal 2016-17 budget, the lab-school project asked the UNC system to set up charter-school-like collaborations between eight of its universities and local public school districts with “low performing” K-8 schools. UNCW Chancellor Jose V. UNCW graduate Brandon Beane has been named general manager of the Buffalo Bills. Beane spent 19 years with the Panthers, where he served as Carolina's assistant general manager over the past two seasons.
