According to Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Job Growth and Talent Gap Report 2017—2027, there’s a widening gap between employers’ needs for skilled project management workers and the availability of people to fill those roles. As the demand for project managers is growing, a large portion of available talent is reaching retirement age. This trend is expected to continue throughout the coming decade, creating a great opportunity for professionals looking to enter the project management field.

Essentials of Project Management provides participants with a solid introduction to the practice of project management, combining theory with practical applications and case studies.

This program provides the opportunity to learn the advanced aspects of project management by focusing on managing projects and your role as a project manager and leader. You will learn how to:

  • better prepare project schedules;
  • develop project measures and advanced approaches to project control; and
  • how to develop, lead and motivate project teams, and manage project risk, budgets and financial constraints.

Completion of this program will result in achieving a UNCW Certificate in the Essentials for Project Management, helping you be more effective in your current management position and prepare you for career advancement and new business opportunities.

  • Gain practical skills that can immediately impact your job performance
  • Activities focused on executing, controlling, and closing projects
  • Validates a fundamental comprehension of project management to potential employers
  • One of only a few certificates that is equally applied across all industries

Ideal participants will have responsibility for managing projects or leading project teams in their organizations. They are professionals interested in improving their efficiency and effectiveness in project management.

This course is excellent for individuals pursuing project management as a new career path, or for those looking for a foundational project management education. Participants often take the course as a first step towards acquiring the Certified Associate of Project Management (CAPM) or the Project Management Professional (PMP) credentials.
