Clinical Research Faculty Host Health-Advocacy Events

Jared Kerr hosted and facilitated on Sept. 29, a strategic planning meeting of the Steering Committee of the NC Research Professional Consortium. The committee was composed of members from Durham Technical College, Duke Office of Clinical Research, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, UNC Chapel Hill, and Campbell University.

Jared Kerr and Althea Lewis (CHHS Grant Award Specialist) facilitated the discussion on “How to Develop Health and Human Services Innovations” at the Innovation Coffee Hour at CHHS on Oct. 20. 

De VriesCLR faculty hosted Glen de Vries (pictured at right), co-founder and president of Medidata Solutions, to speak at one of the Health Transformation Lecture Series held Nov. 14-15. The lecture was sponsored by CHHS, Southeastern Area Health Education Center, Brunswick Community College, Cape Fear Community College and the NC Biotechnology Center. The topic was “The Most Used Medical Device in the World.” Medidata is the leading cloud platform for life sciences research. The company’s mission is to power smarter treatments and healthier people.

Barbara Pennington, Susan Sinclair and Annemarie Petroff play major roles in the planning of “Aware for All,” a health advocacy event held Nov. 15. The event was hosted by the Center for Information and Study on Clincial Research Participation and provided an opportunity for the public to interact with local researchers, clinical trial patients, health care professionals and advocacy groups to learn more about clinical research and clinical trial participation.
