Course Description:

UNCW's Criminal Justice Practicum provides students an opportunity to gain real experience in a variety of local criminal justice agencies. It is also designed to provide practical on-the-job experiences to supplement in-class experiences. Students will intern at a minimum of 10 hours a week with the selected criminal justice agency and will also meet 1 hour every week in a class room setting to discuss educational and professional development issues relevant to the internship.

Practicum Objectives:

Expand and enrich student understanding of the criminal justice system;

•Acquire practical, real-world, experience in a criminal justice or criminology-related agency.

•Apply social science knowledge and theory towards understanding your real-world experiences.

•Begin to develop a professional identity as a criminology/criminal justice practitioner.

After carefully reading the practicum manual contact Dr. Jake Day dayj@uncw.edu  to set up a meeting to discuss career plans and internship placement options. You must gain approval from your advisor and meet with Dr. Day prior to the application deadline.
