John Finn Recognized by NSF for Exemplary Work

April 6, 2020 - John Finn, acting Assistant Director of SPARC, received recognition from the National Science Foundation for his exemplary work on the NSF Higher EducationJohn Finn on Research Survey (HERD). The NSF HERD survey reports the university’s research and development expenditures that the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education (CCIHE) uses for university classifications including UNCW's designation as a Doctoral University – High Research Activity (R2).

In a letter to Chancellor Sartarelli dated April 3, NSF complimented Finn's significant amount of work and effort to provide NSF with FY 2019 data for their measurement of academic R&D. The NSF then provides longitudinal results from this survey to federal, state and academic decision-makers.

UNCW's fiscal year 2019 NSF HERD Survey can be found here and the NSF website includes survey results for previous years of the Higher Education R&D Survey as well as a variety of other science and engineering statistics.
