Amanda Boomershine
Professor
I am a linguist, focusing on the perception and production of Spanish and English by heritage, L1, and L2 speakers in the United States, as well as on the intersection of language and identity. I completed my undergraduate education in Linguistics & Hispanic Linguistics / Spanish at the University of Virginia, followed by both my MA and PhD in Hispanic Linguistics at the Ohio State University. I serve as the Internship Coordinator for World Languages. I enjoy working with both undergraduate and graduate students to help them become more involved with the local Latinx community and to include them in my research projects. If you are interested in volunteering in the community, completing an internship, or doing research, let me know!
Aside from work, I serve on the board of directors of the Cape Fear Chapter of the American Red Cross, Cape Fear HealthNet, and Cape Fear Latinos. I also lead the UNCW Latino Alliance, where I enjoy working with the Latinx and refugee communities to ensure they feel welcomed and connected to the community.
