In-State Tuition (total): $73,200. This does not include additional costs/fees, which can range from $5,000 to over $12,000.

  • Average GPA: 3.5
  • Required minimum overall and/or last 60 credit hours GPA: 3.2
  • Recommended prerequisites GPA: 3.4 or higher
  • Average GRE Scores: Quantitative - 153; Verbal - 155; Analytical - 4.0
  • Average health care experience: 5,930 hours 
  • Three letters of recommendation: Preference is given to applicants with two of three letters from physicians, PAs or clinical supervisors, and others familiar with your clinical experience. One academic recommendation is acceptable. Personal recommendations are discouraged. 


Bachelor’s degree completed by the end of the spring semester prior to matriculation. All prerequisites must be completed no later than December 31 of the year prior to matriculation. All pre-professional academic work must be done at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States. There is no advanced standing. The Program does not accept transfer credit from other Physician Assistant programs. All grades “C” or better. No time limit on completed courses. All prerequisite courses that require a lab must be completed in person. Online labs will not be accepted.

  • General Biology (UNCW: BIO/L 201)
  • Two semesters of Human Anatomy and Physiology with labs (UNCW: BIO/L 240 and BIO/L 241)
  • Microbiology with lab (UNCW: BIO/L 246 or BIO/L 425)
  • General Chemistry with lab (UNCW: CHM/L 101)
  • Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry (UNCW: CHM/L 211 or BIO/L 465)
  • Statistics or Biostatistics (UNCW: STT 210 or STT 215)
  • Psychology (UNCW: PSY 105)
  • Genetics is recommended (UNCW: BIO/L 335)
