FNP and DNP Liaison

Sheri Shaw joined the Student Success Center in November 2016 as the new assistant dean for student success. She began her academic career at Illinois, where she created the award-winning Mannie L. Jackson Illinois Academic Enrichment and Leadership Program within the College of Applied Health Sciences. After Illinois, she worked at Drexel University in the LeBow College of Business as the director of undergraduate student services.

A native of Illinois, Shaw is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in community health and Master of Education in educational and vocational technology. Currently, she is in the final stages of her doctorate at Illinois in community health. She also holds a degree from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angles, California.

Linda Kleckner has been with UNCW since 2005, having started at the School of Nursing, Student Services Office, then transitioning to the Student Success Center when the School of Nursing became a part of the College of Health and Human Services in 2012. She provides administrative support to the advisors in the Student Success Center. Linda is a native of Wilmington, which means she loves the beach. She also loves to travel, is an excellent cook, and loves to read.

Ashley Auerbach joined the Student Success Center as an advisor in March 2015. Ashley is passionate about providing inclusive and effective student support services, while both advocating for and empowering students!  Ashley holds a M.Ed. in college counseling and student development from North Carolina State University, and a license as a national certified counselor. She also holds a B.A. in political science from San Diego State University, in her home state of California. Prior to working at UNCW, Ashley was a college counselor at Wake Technical Community College, where she provided academic advising, career counseling, personal counseling, and community outreach services. In her spare time, Ashley enjoys staying active by playing beach volleyball, basketball, snowboarding, traveling, and exploring the beaches and mountains with her two rescue dogs.

Natalie Bernardina joined the Student Success Center in January 2015. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in communications from the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC. She earned her Masters of Education in higher education in student affairs from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. She has previously worked as an academic advisor at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC and University of South Carolina - Aiken in Aiken, SC. Her passion is for helping students get the most out of their education and time in college. In her free time Natalie enjoys spending time at the beach, reading, traveling and hanging out with family and friends.

Mark Forbes has been an advisor in the Student Success Center since April 2015. Mark has worked as an academic advisor and social science professor since 2011. Mark received a Bachelor Arts degree in history from the University of New Hampshire and a Master of Science degree in education from the University of New England. In his free time, Mark enjoys watching and playing sports, motorcycle riding, wood-working, and spending time with his two sons.

Becky Hardy became a part of the Student Success Center in January 2015. She came to UNCW from Cape Fear Community College where she counseled and advised students in allied health programs, among other disciplines. Becky was a high school guidance counselor in Georgia for twelve years where she advised students and assisted with options for college. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University in general studies (sociology) and her Master of Education degree from Georgia Southern University in counselor education. She loves working with students to help them reach their life goals. When not working with students, she enjoys playing tennis, running, boating, watching college football (Geaux Tigers!) and spending time with friends and family, which includes her Golden Retriever "Finn."

Phil Hardy has been an advisor in the Student Success Center since August 2014. Prior to joining the SSC staff, he provided advising and programming support for transfer, veteran and first-year students at the University of South Carolina. He also has previous advising experience in the community college system at Midlands Technical College. Phil received a Bachelor of Arts degree in government from Campbell University and a Master of Education degree in higher education and student affairs from the University of South Carolina. He is passionate about encouraging others and helping them achieve their academic, career and personal goals. Phil enjoys spending time with his wife, friends and family, eating tacos, watching funny movies and meeting new people.

Rachel Kemp became a part of the Student Success Center in January 2016. A North Carolina beach native, she received her Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from UNC Wilmington in 2010. After graduation, Rachel taught for New Hanover County schools before starting her master's program at North Carolina State University. She received a master's degree in college counseling and student development and a license as a national certified counselor in 2015. Before coming to the Student Success Center, Rachel organized and led a student retention program at North Carolina State University. Rachel also has previous experiences abroad, most recently completing a research study on college graduates living in Beijing, China. In her free time, Rachel enjoys reading on the beach, going out to eat, and spending time with her friends and family.

Carie joined the team in February 2019. She is completing a master's degree in conflict management and resolution at UNCW. She also earned a master's and education specialist degree in counseling from UNC Greensboro. Carie also possess a bachelor's degree in English and Latin from Wake Forest University. Carie aims to maintain a holistic understanding of each individual student she advises, build relationships in which each student feels safe and confident, and to empower each student to create and achieve their own academic, career, and personal goals. In her free time, Carie likes to read novels, spend time with friends, and is currently learning modern calligraphy. Sometimes she enjoys simply sitting at the beach, enjoying the waves and sunshine.

Edye joins us from New England, as she left her job at Plymouth State University where she served as the Assistant Director of Student Activities for more than three years. Before moving to Plymouth, she received her M.Ed. of higher education and student affairs at Salem State University, and a bachelor's degree in business administration with a focus in marketing at Fitchburg State University. Her passion is to support, advocate for, and develop well rounded students who are prepared to conquer their dreams. In her free time, Edye spends a lot of time at the beach, searching for sea glass, and as much time on the water as possible, whether it be paddle boarding, SCUBA diving, or just enjoying the waves and sunshine.

Rachael McLoud holds a Master of Arts in college student development and administration from Shepherd University and enjoys bringing her passion for higher education to the students with whom she works. Before coming to UNCW, she was the counselor/advisor for TRiO Student Support Services at Hagerstown Community College (HCC) in Maryland for almost five years. Rachael also worked in correctional mental health after completing an Associate of Arts in foreign language at HCC and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV. She trained as a classical ballet dancer before college and has since transitioned her love of movement into becoming a yoga practitioner and teacher. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, the performing arts and any activity involving the ocean.

Kristen Meyer started as a student success advisor in the Student Success Center in March 2015. A Greenville, NC native, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education in 2006 from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. After teaching third grade in Charlotte, NC for two years, Kristen went on to receive her Master of Arts in higher education- adult and developmental education in 2011 from Appalachian State. She also has a graduate certificate in post-secondary learning support from the University of Florida. Before coming to UNCW, Kristen served as an academic coordinator for athletes both at East Carolina University and George Mason University. Most recently, she served as training coordinator in the office of the registrar at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, FL from February 2012-March 2015. Kristen is passionate about helping students achieve both personal and professional success and is interested in assisting students with overcoming the unique challenges they each face. In her free time, Kristen enjoys spending time with her husband, 3-year daughter and newborn son, cat, and dog, as well as reading, playing the violin, and running.

Adam received a Bachelor of Science degree in health promotion from the Coastal Carolina University and a Master of Education degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. His passion is to help develop well rounded students who will be prepared for success in their life after college. In his free time Adam enjoys surfing, paddle boarding and traveling.

She received a Bachelor of Science at Kent State University and a Master of Education degree at University of North Carolina Wilmington. She enjoys helping and guiding students both academically and professionally throughout their time in college. Natalie enjoys traveling, reading, biking around the beach, and yoga.

Lindsay Phipps has been an advisor in the Student Success Center since January 2016. She is a North Carolina native and a graduate of UNCW. In 2010, Lindsay received a bachlor's degree in psychology from UNC Wilmington. She later earned a Master's degree in college student development from Appalachian State University. Prior to working at UNCW, Lindsay worked as the assistant director of student activities at Lander University in Greenwood, SC. She has gained valuable experience; working closely with New Student Orientation, Career Development and the University Programming Council. Her passion is to create learning and real life experiences in college that will help make students successful after graduation. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her dog, traveling, trying new restaurants, spending time with family and friends and going to the beach.

Mark Shell is a North Carolina native and is originally from Hudson, NC where he served as an admissions representative for Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute for five years. Mark earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in drama from the University of North Carolina Asheville and his Master of Science in education from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Mark provides the support students need to be successful while fostering meaningful relationships with the students he works with. In his spare time, Mark enjoys participating in community theatre and is also a licensed pilot. He desires to continue flying and aspires to become a certified flight instructor.

Mark Werbeach started his career in university student and academic affairs in August 2004. He transitioned to the UNCW Career Center in August 2005. He then joined the College of Health and Human Services in January 2012 and passionately serves the Student Success Center. Mark has always had a strong interest in helping other people reach their goals. He received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Kent State University in Ohio. He then obtained a Master of Science in counselor education from Radford University in Virginia. Outside of work, Mark enjoys playing volleyball, corn hole, disc golf, and kitesurfing on sunny days.
