The Watson College is pleased to sponsor a screening of “Game On UNCW: Esports + Education.” The documentary, directed by Bradley Pearce and produced by UNCW’s media production team, chronicles the growth of Esports at UNCW.

The documentary will be shown Monday, January 30 at 6 pm in UNCW’s Lumina Theater. The event is free and open to the public.

About the Film

Esports: Using electronic games as a form of competition. Short for “Electronic Sports”

UNCW Esports brings together a community to learn, play, and educate in order to prepare students for the future. Since its inception in 2019, it has grown to more than 600 students with six competitive teams. The club hosts campus and community events, partnering with other clubs, companies, and colleges.

In the Fall of 2020, UNCW introduced an Esports certificate program for individuals interested in gaming, streaming, and exploring careers in Esports.

Game On UNCW: Esports + Education is a feature length documentary following the UNCW Seahawk Esports & Gaming Club, Esports Professor Dr. Ray Pastore, and members of the different UNCW Collegiate Esports Teams. The film examines the relationship between gaming and education, exploring themes of competition in Esports compared to traditional college athletic programs.
