UNCW/3C Hosts Community College Aspiring Leaders’ Summits

Tuesday, March 01, 2022

UNCW held professional development events in partnership with Fayetteville Technical Community College in February and Brunswick Community College in March. The events followed a two-day Aspiring Leaders’ Summit event held in partnership with Lenoir Community College in January.

During the Aspiring Leaders’ Summit events, Critical Appreciative Inquiry was used as a framework to explore topics including budgeting, conflict resolution, diversity-equity & inclusion, SACSCOC, and the staff to administrative transition and leadership.

Aspiring Leaders’ Summits are offered through the UNCW Community College Collaborative. The UNCW/3C Collaborative is a university-community college partnership initiative created in 2019 to walk shoulder to shoulder in partnership to develop strong future leaders, as well as other partnering initiatives, for North Carolina’s community colleges.

Through the UNCW/3C Collaborative, UNCW works with community college partners to offer programs, conferences and professional development and other events that will help to strengthen higher education offerings in the state.

Denise Henning planned the events in partnership with colleagues at the community colleges, and Marilyn Sheerer, Professor at UNCW’s Watson College. Henning is director of the UNCW/3C Collaborative, coordinator of WCE’S Community College Leadership Certificate program and a professor of practice in WCE’s Department of Educational Leadership.

“The Aspiring Leaders’ Summit events have been amazing and affirming of the growing leadership in the NC community college system,” Henning said. “Participants are passionate about our growing partnerships and our work focused on the future success of students. We look forward to hosting additional Aspiring Leaders’ Summits with our community college partners during the 2022-23 academic year.”
