WSLs Volunteer at Events, Welcome New Members

Saturday, September 04, 2021

WCE’s Watson Student Leaders serve as ambassadors and represent the college through leadership, professionalism and service.

In August, the WSLs held a series of virtual information meetings for Watson College students interested in joining the student organization, and on September 12 they welcomed 29 new members!

As the fall semester got underway, Watson Student Leaders volunteered at UNCW Move In and held a campaign to write inspirational messages for a digital card to welcome freshmen in WCE’s Education Learning Community. The WSLs also participated in an Emotionally Intelligent Leadership Workshop co-sponsored by UNCW’s Office of Student Leadership & Engagement and a Green Zone Training with the Office of Military Affairs.

Several WSLs joined WCE Recruiter Dean Heath at a Watson Preview Day event on August 28, where they greeted prospective students and participated in a panel discussion. Participating student leaders were Madison Butler, Tori Daughtridge, Caroline Deheck, Julia Gambon, Cassidy Horne, Emma Keel, Hannah Kelly, Meredith Kirkman, Karen Metcalf, Emily Mills, Diana Nyberg and Anna Whetstone.

In September, the WSLs also held an annual fall sale of Watson and Teal Teach merchandise – with a pledge to use a portion of the proceeds to purchase winter apparel for children in need at a local school in the area.

Future events include a 2021 Aspiring Educator Summit with the theme “Global Citizens.” The third annual event will take place virtually on Saturday, November 20. More information will be shared soon!
