Virgo Students Explore STEM with Duke Energy Science Kits

Saturday, May 01, 2021

In April, D.C. Virgo students explored science, technology, engineering and mathematics through engaging hands-on activities provided by the North Carolina Science Festival and the Duke Energy Foundation through the Duke Energy Science Night (DESN) program.

Kindergarteners learned about forces and motion by making and tested parachutes, first graders learned about ecosystems by planting a mini-garden in a glove, and eighth graders learned how computers identify objects using artificial intelligence. Other kits provided allowed students to explore fingerprints, genetic traits and physics.

The goal of the Duke Energy Science Night program and this year’s DESN activity kits is to generate enthusiasm among students and families for science and technology by giving them a chance to explore science together through hands-on activities.
