Watson College Hosts Alumni Reception

Friday, November 03, 2017

Current, retired and emeriti faculty joined Watson College alumni at a reception on Nov. 1. The event provided alumni an opportunity to connect with friends and former professors while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and beverages in the beautiful atrium of the Education Building.

Watson College dean Van Dempsey and WCE Alumni Chapter president Juliana Nesbit 06 spoke at the event. Nesbit introduced Glenn Reed 91, recipient of the 2017 Watson College of Education Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award.

Reed is principal of Dixon Elementary School in Jacksonville. He taught French in Onslow County and served as principal of Stateside Elementary and Blue Creek Elementary before assuming his current position. He was selected for the award in recognition of his commitment to innovative classroom improvement and “life-long dedication to student and staff achievement.” Members of the Watson College Alumni Chapter Steering Committee select the recipient of the Distinguished Award.

Reed was featured in a “We are UNCW” profile on Nov. 28.

Watson College students Andrea Lang, Mary Meakin McPhaul and Mikaela Kuhnel, recipients of Watson College Alumni Chapter Scholarships, were also recognized at the event.
