Work Begins on ‘Forest of DREAMS’ Mural in Wilmington

Sunday, April 03, 2016

WCE Professor Janna Robertson is leading a community effort to beautify a section of downtown Wilmington this semester. The project involves painting a 240-foot mural at the corner of 10th and Fanning Streets near DREAMS of Wilmington. The ‘Forest of Dreams’ mural will feature exotic flora and creatures, representing more than 60 community groups assisting with the effort.

Robertson and Matt Carvin, DREAMS' executive director, discussed the project at a city council meeting in February. After the council granted permission for the city’s wall to be painted, work got underway on March 5.

Hundreds of volunteers from nonprofits, churches, schools, businesses and the Northside neighborhood have signed up to assist with the project, including members of DREAMS' teen council and several groups of UNCW students. The volunteers will join Robertson to help paint the mural on Saturday mornings through April.
