Wilmington STEMposium – Jan. 9, 2016

Monday, November 02, 2015

UNCW’s Center for Education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (CESTEM) is partnering with Accelerate Learning to co-host a Wilmington STEMposium. The professional development workshop, designed for K-12 STEM school and district leaders, curriculum directors and administrators, will be held at the Watson College on Jan. 9, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A newly released product, STEMscopes, will be featured at the workshop. STEMscopes uses the innovative IDEA lesson model across three platforms – digital, kit and print – to help students understand the three dimensions of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Sessions at the STEMposium will include ‘STEM in Action,’ ‘What matters most in creating a STEM-centered classroom,’ and ‘How STEM should be taught.’ Participants in this interactive, hands-on workshop will have an opportunity to explore the complexities and nuances of the NGSS and its practical implications for the classroom.

Dr. Reid Whitaker, creator of STEMscopes, and Sharry Whitney, professional development specialist for STEMscopes, are featured presenters at the event.
