WCE’s Department of EEMLS Honors Veterans with Literature Display

Monday, November 02, 2015

In November, faculty in WCE’s Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Grades, Literacy and Special Education (EEMLS) collected books and materials related to military personnel, war and the support of military families.

The literature was displayed on the second floor of the Education Building on Veteran’s Day. Watson College faculty, staff and students were invited to stop by to enjoy refreshments, peruse books than can serve as examples of effective material to introduce in the classroom on the subject, and join the Department of EEMLS in a show of respect to the men and women who have served in the armed forces.

The collection included children’s books such as Faithful Elephants, A True Story of Animals, People and War, contributed by Brad Walker; the young adult non-fiction book Secrets Of A Civil War Submarine: Solving The Mysteries Of The H. L. Hunley, shared by WCE’s PDS Office; The Teacher’s Guide for Supporting Students from Military Families, shared by WCE associate dean Ann Potts; and several books from Kathy Fox and EEMLS faculty.

EEMLS department chair Kathy Fox coordinated the event.
