Faculty Highlights

Brad Walker, associate professor, Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Grades, Literacy and Special Education (EEMLS), was selected by the UNCW student body to be the keynote speaker for the 2015 Convocation on Aug. 17. Candace Thompson, associate professor in the Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education (ITFSE) was the selected speaker for the 2014 Convocation.

WE ARE UNCW features the people - the faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the university - who make UNCW shine on campus and in the community. Denise Ousley-Exum, associate professor, Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education (ITFSE) is the 2015 recipient of the prestigious Chancellor's Teaching Excellence Award.

Faculty Grant Recipients

Two faculty members have received 2015 CTE Summer Pedagogy Development awards. They are:

  • Marsha Carr, "Educational Leadership: Selecting and Developing Apps that Matter"
  • Christine Liao, "Helping Students Integrate the Arts beyond the Course Semester"

Faculty in the News

Martin Kozloff, distinguished professor of Education, EEMLS, was mentioned in Text (noun) a Lumina News story featuring the UNCW Hillcrest Reading Program. Kozloff started the reading program in 2008 with John Rice, associate professor of sociology and criminology, and Eric Irizarry.

Staff Recognitions

Linda 's -Kudos -Award -2015Linda Register, administrative associate, ITFSE, received a Kudos Award from human resources for outstanding support to the Watson College of Education. She was recognized for providing extensive conference and event support during the busy spring semester.

Student Recognitions

Katherine (Katie) Deese has accepted an instructional designer position with UNCW's Office of eLearning. Deese earned a Master of Science in Instructional Technology (MIT) degree from the Watson College in May and began her new position immediately following graduation.

Tryphina Robinson has accepted a position as a teacher education faculty member in the College of Professional Studies at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio. Robinson earned her doctoral degree in educational leadership at the Watson College in May. She will begin her new position in the fall.
