WCE Hosts Campus Forum with Chancellor Sederburg

Tuesday, November 04, 2014

Chancellor William Sederburg visited the Watson College for a UNCW Campus Forum on Oct. 9. The Watson College forum was one in a series of eight events designed to inform the chancellor and the campus community of the work of UNCW’s colleges, divisions and offices. Provost Denise Battles, faculty and staff from across campus also attended the event.

Dean Teitelbaum opened the forum with an overview of current challenges in the field of education. These issues include recent education legislation, state licensing requirements, accreditation and accountability, and public perceptions and misperceptions about the teaching profession.

A panel comprised of Carol McNulty, Ann Potts, Somer Lewis and Cindy Wiseman made presentations on the work of the college and answered questions from the chancellor.  Presentations focused on WCE degree and licensure programs, the Professional Development System (PDS) partnership with school districts and teachers in the region, student field placements and internships managed in partnership with area schools, and other outreach initiatives. McNulty is associate dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Potts is associate dean for Teacher Education and Outreach, Lewis is director of PDS and Wiseman is director of Professional Experiences for the Watson College.
