Dear CAS Students, Faculty, Staff, and Friends --

I am pleased to share with you the second issue of the Inside CAS newsletter. Our goal is to share the wealth of knowledge, research, and philanthropy found in CAS with our community and supporters. We will continue to feature stories like these with your help.

On behalf of CAS, I want to thank you for your continuous partnership. This semester sets the trajectory for the future of CAS since we have initiated and participated in several "firsts" for not only our college but also UNCW as a whole. We had the privilege of honoring Dr. Jose "Zito" Sartarelli as our official chancellor with his installation ceremony in March. The College of Arts and Sciences graciously won the Chancellor's "Give More in 24" Giving Challenge by securing 100 alumni donations before the other colleges and professional schools, which earned CAS another $10,000 in funds to enhance student experiential learning and assist in student, staff, and faculty development. I cannot express enough gratitude to those who contributed to the campaign.

We also initiated several new events this spring to promote and unite our College. In April, CAS held its inaugural Open House, which showcased the wide range of departments. We opened our doors to more than 400 community members. Visitors created chemical reactions, painted with our artists, viewed student projects, participated in a dig, and much more. Last month, we recognized our outstanding faculty and staff at Convocation. Honorees received gifts for outstanding teaching, retirements and superior leadership. Finally, we celebrated our newest graduates at Commencement on May 7th. We wish all of our graduates well in this exciting time. Please remember to stay in touch -- Once a Seahawk, Always a Seahawk.

This spring has been filled with many memories and milestones. We are excited to build upon established traditions, while continuing our commitment to innovation. Have a great summer!
