Mautz Named Interim CSB Dean

David Mautz, former chair of the Department of Accountancy and Business Law, has been appointed interim dean of the Cameron School of Business, effective July 7, 2025. The university announced that Mautz will serve as interim dean for the 2025-26 academic year while Robert T. Burrus serves as the university’s interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. 

As interim dean, Mautz will lead the Cameron School of Business which is home to more than 140 faculty and staff and provides academic instruction to more than 3,000 students.  

“Dr. Mautz is an experienced leader dedicated to the success and advancement of the Cameron community,” said Burrus. “Having worked alongside David for many years, I am confident that his leadership will guide and serve Cameron successfully throughout the year, continuing our path of academic excellence and community engagement.” 

Mautz joined the UNCW faculty in 2007, was promoted to professor in 2016 and recently completed an 11-year term as chair of the Department of Accountancy and Business Law. He brings more than 35 years of academic leadership and professional service to the interim dean role, including faculty mentorship, resource planning, curriculum and policy development, and accounting education. 

Mautz is a professor in Cameron’s Department of Accountancy and Business Law. He holds a doctorate in Accounting from the University of Tennessee and is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of CPAs.
