UNCW & CFCC Establish Transfer Agreement for Oceanography

The University of North Carolina Wilmington has partnered with Cape Fear Community College to create a transfer opportunity for community college students wishing to pursue a bachelor’s degree in oceanography.

Students who have successfully completed an Associate in Applied Science degree in Marine Technology at CFCC and who meet UNCW’s admission requirements will have a straightforward pathway to completing a four-year Bachelor of Science degree at UNCW.

“Before this partnership, a clear pathway for graduates of the CFCC Marine Technology program did not exist,” said UNCW Chancellor Dr. Aswani K. Volety. “UNCW is pleased to offer this opportunity for CFCC graduates to further their education and broaden their career opportunities.”

This partnership came to life through the hard work of two faculty members, Jason Rogers, CFCC Marine Technology Department Chair, and Dr. Philip Bresnahan, UNCW assistant professor of oceanography.

“I am thrilled to see this articulation agreement between CFCC and UNCW come to fruition,” said Jim Morton, CFCC President. “This partnership provides a seamless pathway for students to pursue their academic and careers goals in this exciting and ever-evolving field, while also continuing to foster collaboration and innovation between our institutions.”
