8:30 a.m. -- Weather conditions are projected to continue improving rapidly on Saturday, Oct. 1. Campus events, including Family Weekend, will resume as scheduled. Please see individual event websites for specific information. 

UNCW’s main campus and the Center for Marine Science experienced limited damage as a result of the storm. Additional updates about Ian are not planned at this time. If changing conditions warrant, the university will post new information on the UNCW homepage, the UNCW Alert website, Facebook and Twitter. 

The potential for dangerous rip currents will remain high during the day, and students, faculty and staff are urged to exercise caution when visiting the beach. Stay out of the ocean as directed by signage and safety personnel.

Be aware of the potential for flooding on area roads. Do not enter standing water on foot; there may be significant risks of infection or electrocution.
