UNCW will celebrate its commitment to community engagement and service during “Seahawks that Serve Week” slated for Sept. 12-17.
During the weeklong event, UNCW faculty, staff and students will be involved in various community engagement activities, including a blood drive and a community action workshop on clean water.
Seahawks will have an opportunity to meet community partners and learn more about how they can get involved during a Volunteer Fair scheduled for Sept. 13. In an effort to keep trash out of the oceans, the university is partnering with Utility Management Services Inc. and Keep New Hanover Beautiful in the “International Coastal Cleanup” on Sept. 16. On Sept. 17, the university will observe the anniversary of Hurricane Florence through a day of service during “Wings Up for Wilmington.”
“We believe service to others is part of what it means to be a Seahawk. Seahawks Care. Seahawks Give. Seahawks Serve,” said Jaime Russell, director of the Office of Student Community Engagement. “Our goal is to provide students with a range of opportunities to learn, grow, and engage, so they have the necessary tools to be an intentional and active community member during their time at UNCW and beyond.”
