Seahawk Mail Gets Stamp of Approval from National Organization

Receiving and sending mail is something most of us do nearly every day, and we probably don’t spend much time thinking about the processes and people behind it.
Since 1995, the National Association of College and University Mail Services has supported higher education postal services and honored organizations and individuals for contributions to their institutions and to the profession. NACUMS has named UNCW Postal Services (Seahawk Mail) the Mail Center of the Year and honored Michael Lloyd, director of campus support services, with the Lou Eichler Award of Excellence for his lifetime accomplishments in the field.
Some of the accomplishments that garnered Seahawk Mail the honor include creating a cost-effective virtual letter system to reduce end-of-semester mail forwarding, developing an app for student mail check-in and check-out processes and partnering with Centro Hispano to better serve the Hispanic population.
“To be recognized by your peers is very rewarding and gives our team more incentive to continue use technology and available resources to enhance our overall customer experience,” said Sam Nevarez, postal and passport services operations manager. “I'm extremely proud of each team member for their contributions toward this award.”
The Lou Eichler Award of Excellence is the highest honor bestowed by NACUMS. Lloyd was promoted to director of campus support services at UNCW in 2015, after holding positions in printing services, Seahawk Mail and auxiliary services for 20 years.
“Mike has long been a leader in the higher education mailing industry. He always gives of his time, experience and knowledge and continually offers assistance to other mail operations to help with improvements,” read his nomination. “He is the go-to person for creating additional revenue streams and has been instrumental in helping many schools implement services including passports, money orders, lockers and more.”
This is the first time UNCW has received these honors. The awards were presented at the NACUMS national conference in July.
