True Crime Tale by UNCW’s de Gramont an Insta(nt) Hit

Released in the U.S. on Feb. 1, The Christie Affair, a novel by UNCW creative writing faculty member Nina de Gramont '06MFA, has earned instant acclaim.

The book explores the 11-day disappearance of the late best-selling novelist Agatha Christie following the news her husband was leaving her for his mistress.

“True crime aficionados…this book is for you!” Academy Award-winning actress Reese Witherspoon wrote in an Instagram post announcing it as her February book club selection. “I loved it so much, I read it in one sitting,” she shared with her 27.3 million followers.

Currently sixth on The London Times bestseller list, the new release has been named a “must-read mystery” by Amazon Book Review, made Goodreads Members’ Most Anticipated Books of 2022 and Barnes and Noble’s Most Anticipated New Book Releases of February 2022 lists, among others. Miramax TV has optioned the rights to the novel.

Also known as Marina Gessner, de Gramont teaches fiction, creative nonfiction and the art of the personal essay at UNCW. Her other published works include Gossip of the Starlings; Of Cats and Men; Every Little Thing in the World and The Last September.
