Michelle Scatton-Tessier Named Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences for 2021-22

Following an internal search, Michelle Scatton-Tessier, associate dean and professor in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), has been selected to serve as the interim dean of the CAS for the 2021-22 academic year, effective immediately.Scatton-Tessier brings more than 11 years of UNCW administrative experience to the position including service as director of the Women’s Studies and Resource Center, department chair of the Department of World Languages and Cultures, and associate dean in CAS. Her experience and knowledge of CAS points of pride and current opportunities position her to provide stabilizing leadership for the coming academic year and make substantive contributions to the university priorities this year.
Among the many duties assigned to the interim dean, Dr. Scatton-Tessier will lead the college as the new university strategic plan is developed; manage ongoing discussions regarding enhancing research within the college; work to strengthen and enhance support for interdisciplinary programs; and continue to advance the university and college diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
“Dr. Scatton-Tessier is a skilled leader and valued member of our university community,” Provost James Winebrake said. “I am confident she will be successful in providing the leadership and advocacy that will allow the college to thrive in the upcoming academic year.”
Scatton-Tessier is a Professor of French in the Department of World Languages and Cultures and holds a Ph.D. in French from the University of Iowa. She has been a member of the university community since 2003.
