Notice: UNCW Cancels Classes, Events After 1 p.m. Today
Thursday, March 18, 2021
Given the potential for weather impacts after 4 p.m. today, the university is taking the actions below at this time.
Students
Due to the severity of the predicted storms and the increased risk for tornadoes, UNCW plans to cancel all classes starting at 1 p.m., including online classes. Events and activities also are canceled after 1 p.m.
Employees
Employees working remotely should continue to do so unless otherwise instructed by your supervisors. For those working on campus, Condition 1 of the Adverse Weather Policy will go in effect at 1 p.m. today through 8 a.m. Friday.
The Office of Facilities respectfully requests curtailment of non-essential fume hood usage and the hood sashes should be closed for the duration of the storm in an effort to protect the HVAC systems, supporting the laboratories from damage.
Campus Services
The inclement weather will require campus buildings and programs to modify hours of operation. Please visit specific websites for updated schedules and information.
Emergency Communications
Please continue to monitor your UNCW inbox, the UNCW homepage, and social media feeds (Facebook and Twitter) for university announcements. In the event of an urgent situation (such as a tornado warning), the university will activate the UNCW Alert system.
Student phone numbers are automatically registered to receive UNCWAlert emergency notifications by voice and text message. Students should follow these instructions to review or update their contact numbers. University employees also receive UNCWAlert emergency notifications via voice calls and text messages. Emergency contact information is confidential and is only used for emergency notification and periodic system testing.
Thank you for your continued attention to UNCW’s weather updates.
