New Website Makes UNC Research Universally Available
Monday, March 22, 2021
The University of North Carolina System’s new OpenUNC website helps make UNC research available to the world. Each day, faculty and students from institutions with the University of North Carolina conduct research and engage in creative activities. Their discoveries power innovation and economic development. Their creativity enriches our culture and environment. Much of their work is publicly available but can be difficult to find.
UNCW students, faculty and staff will be among those who benefit.
“This site, a portal to open-access journals, monographs, articles and educational resources produced by faculty within UNC System, will provide researchers greater access to the scholarship of UNCW faculty and will offer our own faculty and students free access to colleagues’ work and a wide range of teaching resources,” said UNCW University Librarian Lucy Holman. “As Randall Library grows its own open-access endeavors, including a platform for digital scholarship and a new infrastructure for journal publishing, we hope that OpenUNC will offer far-reaching exposure for UNCW faculty and encourage open-access scholarship across the system.”
OpenUNC is sponsored by the UNC University Library Advisory Council. It was designed by East Carolina University webmaster Michael Tucker and will be maintained by ULAC’s Scholarly Communication Working Group.
