Message from the Chancellor: UNCW to Open COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic to Serve Campus Community

Thursday, March 04, 2021

UNCW will open a COVID-19 vaccination clinic on campus later in March. The clinic will operate in Burney Center by appointment only, will initially serve the UNCW campus community and may expand its mission in the future.

The Student Health Center staff will manage the clinic in compliance with NCDHHS guidelines, which are currently focused on serving individuals in Group 3. As previously shared, vaccinations for all segments of Group 3 (Frontline and Essential Workers) opened on March 3. Group 3 includes university instructional and support staff who are “in-person at their place of work.”

According to NCDHHS, vaccinations for Group 4 currently are scheduled to begin on March 24. Group 4 includes adults at high risk for exposure and increased risk of severe illness. According to the state, the second phase of Group 4 will include students in congregate living settings such as residence halls. Please see Group 4 information here (PDF). Group 5 includes everyone who wants a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccination. You can learn more about each group at the NCDHHS website

An official clinic start date has not been finalized yet, and clinic operations are dependent on vaccine availability. Details on how to sign up for the vaccine and volunteer at the clinic will be forthcoming. Please give us some time to work through the processes involved to establish the clinic. We look forward to sending you additional information as soon as possible. Please continue to monitor your campus inboxes, the university homepage and Best for the Nest.
