Ecotone Again a Finalist for Literary “Firecracker Award”
Friday, June 19, 2020
Ecotone is a finalist for the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses Firecracker Awards in the category of “Magazines, General Excellence.” Fellow nominees include The Kenyon Review, The New England Review and The Common.
The literary magazine published by faculty and graduate students in the UNCW Department of Creative Writing is dedicated to reimagining place and is distributed nationally. In its fifteenth year of publication, Ecotone was also a finalist for the 2018 Firecracker Awards. The issues (spring and fall 2019) considered for this year's awards are themed “Love.”
“I'm so pleased that the work of our student and faculty staff has been recognized,” said Anna Lena Phillips Bell, Ecotone editor and a creative writing faculty member. “These two issues were made in the months following Hurricane Florence and, subsequently, Hurricane Dorian, and I'm both proud and incredibly thankful to our staff for their persistence and creative thinking.”
To support readers and writers during the coronavirus pandemic, the magazine's most recent issues are currently free to read online.
The award winners will be announced on June 30.
