Notice: Tornado Watch Issued for the UNCW Area

Thursday, February 06, 2020

4:40 p.m. -- Update: Moments after we shared our previous update, a tornado watch was issued for our area until 1 a.m. This does not necessarily mean a tornado is heading our way; it means conditions are "favorable" for a tornado, but there is nothing more to do than remain aware of changing conditions, follow local weather reports, and keep your phone charged, on, and nearby, in case additional weather alerts are issued. Thanks for your continued attention!

4 p.m. --- Seahawks, there is a chance that our area could experience heavy rain and strong winds later this evening and overnight. As of 4 p.m., there are no severe weather watches or warnings in effect for this area, and no campus response is necessary.

It’s a good time to remind you, though, that in the event of a tornado *warning,* the UNCWAlert system will be utilized to activate on-campus sirens, and to call and send text alerts to registered cell phones. Be sure that your cell phone remains charged and powered on at all times, especially overnight or during other periods when you are not likely to check your campus email; and stay up to date on conditions by monitoring local media reports and visiting the National Weather Service: Wilmington website.

Thank you for your attention to your safety and that of your fellow Seahawks!
