Hooked on Arts Street Fair Strives to Raise Awareness for Art-Based Therapy

Tuesday, July 09, 2019

The UNCW College of Health and Human Services is collaborating with the Lumina Festival of the Arts to host the Hooked on Arts Street Fair, a weekend of family fun and learning. The event takes place on Kenan Lawn on the UNCW campus July 13-14 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and will feature art vendors, food trucks, a chalk contest and free live entertainment for all ages.

Featured performers include Mr. Scooter, a local children’s storyteller, rapper and librarian; and Mr. Mark’s Music from Futureshine Entertainment, whose unique music inspires movement and learning.

The festival is being held to raise awareness about arts-based therapy through engaging demonstrations and activities that make learning fun and accessible for everyone. Hooked on Arts also supports addiction-related services in the Cape Fear region, including New Hanover Regional Medical Center Care Team, Wave Massage and Spa, Paws4People Foundation, Port City Letterpress and Book Studio LLC, Music Heals Minds and UNC Health Care.

Those interested in attending the festival or volunteering can find more information here.

The Hooked on Arts festival reflects UNCW’s commitment to community engagement and innovation, values outlined in the university’s Strategic Plan.
