UNCW, NC Division of Forest Resources to Conduct Controlled Burn March 7
Thursday, March 07, 2019
The University of North Carolina Wilmington is working with the North Carolina Forest Service to conduct controlled burns on an approximately five-acre tract of the Ev-Henwood Nature Preserve in Brunswick County Thursday, March 7.In addition to the ecological benefits for forests, as longleaf pine forests are fire-dependent ecosystems, controlled burns are designed to decrease the chances of hazardous wildfires by reducing accumulated litter, which fuels wildfires.
The sight and smell of smoke may be detectable from neighboring areas during the burn. Safety controls will be in place to minimize these conditions as much as possible. Questions may be directed to UNCW Landscaping at 910.962.3107.
