Friday, March 15, 2019
“Hollywood East,” as the locals call it, will welcome the Visions Film Festival & Conference back to UNCW April 11-12. The two-day conference, hosted by the Film Studies Department, was created by and for undergraduates to celebrate, promote and connect the best in undergraduate filmmaking and film studies across the world. As the only undergraduate peer-reviewed joint film festival and conference, Visions offers an enriched opportunity for passionate film students to indulge in an environment full of artistic expression, as well as showcase their own work. Attendees enjoy scholarly analyses, discussion panels and screenings.
“The event aims to bring in industry professionals, plus undergraduate filmmakers and scholars from film programs around the world to our campus as a way of creating a network for film students as they prepare for graduation,” said Shannon Silva, associate professor of film studies and event supervisor.
As part of an effort to foster a professional network, Visions gives out nearly $15,000 in prizes, including travel grants for filmmakers and scholars from all over the world.
