Pride of the Seahawks: Spirit Strong Ahead of Annual Homecoming Celebration

Wednesday, January 23, 2019

Each year, the crowds gets larger and the pride for UNCW gets stronger. With dozens of events, there is something for every member of the Seahawk family during UNCW’s annual Homecoming celebration, Feb. 1-3.

Many events require registration and/or tickets, but most activities are free and open to all. Online registration for signature alumni events ends Sunday, Jan. 27 and includes, but is not limited to: TEALgate, the Alumni Champagne Brunch, the African American Graduate Association Luncheon, the Student Affairs Reunion and the Legacy Pinning Ceremony. For a full listing of events and to register, visit uncw.edu/homecoming.

“Our alumni base of over 80,000 has a lot to be proud of this year,” said Lindsay LeRoy, director of alumni relations and executive director of the UNCW Alumni Association. “Seahawks from around the globe have assisted with the continued Hurricane Florence recovery efforts of their beloved alma mater. Homecoming weekend will be a time for alumni, students, friends and family to return, reunite and celebrate this wonderful place we call UNCW.”

During Homecoming, the Alumni Association will recognize three individuals for their outstanding achievements and service to the university and community. The 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award honorees are:

  • Lindsay S. Harkey '09
Distinguished Young Alumna of the Year

  • Donald E. Godwin '69
    Distinguished Alumnus of the Year

  • Janine Powell '88
    Distinguished Citizen of the Year
