Annual COM Studies Day Upgraded to a Full Week with Events March 19-23
Wednesday, March 21, 2018
UNCW’s Department of Communication Studies is hosting its 16th annual COM Studies Day – only this year, the festivities have been extended to take place over a full week.
Created by former department chair Frank Trimble, COM Studies Day is an annual tradition that gives current students and alumni the chance to celebrate their discipline, expand their knowledge through expert panels and gain insight into their own potential.
“Because our major is so versatile, we want to educate students on their potential career and life paths,” said Jeanne M. Persuit, associate professor of communication studies. “This year, we decided to expand to a full week to provide students with even more meaningful content, and to have the opportunity to really honor the alumni who remain involved in the department.”
Throughout the week, students can take part in everything from social media scavenger hunts and a live podcast event to alumni panels and lectures. The department’s extensive community of connections also allows students the opportunity to do some pretty serious networking. Fostering partnerships and preparing students for post-graduate success are key priorities of the university’s Strategic Plan.
“We have such an involved and committed group of alumni in COM, and they were asking the same questions and looking for similar guidance when they were undergraduates,” said Persuit. “We want our current students to learn from their experiences and wisdom.”
A complete event listing can be found on the Communication Studies homepage.
