WEATHER: Increased Risk of Rip Currents Along Area Beaches; UNCW Monitoring Hurricane Maria
Friday, September 22, 2017
3 p.m. -- National Weather Service forecasts indicate an increased risk of rip currents along the beaches near UNCW’s main campus. Please visit the NWS rip current risk site for more information before heading out to the coast.
In collaboration with the National Weather Service and other agencies, UNCW is monitoring Hurricane Maria. Although current forecast models indicate that the storm will remain offshore as it passes by the Wilmington area, strong rip currents and dangerous surf conditions are expected along our coastline. Check local weather reports before heading to the beach. Stay out of the water as directed by weather reports, signage and safety personnel.
