Sara F. Thorndike, associate vice chancellor for finance and controller at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, was recognized as a “2017 Rising Star” by the National Association of College and University Business Officers.

In May, Thorndike was among one of 16 business and finance professionals selected for its 2017-18 NACUBO Fellows Program. She has served as UNCW’s chief accounting officer since 2014, overseeing the university’s financial accounting operations, reporting, analytics and policy functions. Additionally, she is the principal accounting and financial policy advisor to senior administration.

Since 1962, NACUBO has worked to advance the economic viability, business practices and support for higher education institutions across the country. The “Rising Star Award” recognizes those with high potential to succeed as executives and business officers in higher education. More information on 2017's award recipients is available online.
