New Faculty Join the UNCW Ranks

As UNCW gears up to celebrate its 70th anniversary this year, the university also welcomes nearly 60 new faculty members to campus this fall.

“We emphasize academic excellence at UNCW. The newest additions to our esteemed faculty will add to our reputation for being committed to exemplary teaching, applied learning, research and community engagement,” said Provost Marilyn Sheerer during her remarks at new faculty orientation.

More than 100 individuals and 60 university offices and community organizations joined forces to welcome the newest faculty members during a two-day orientation hosted by the Center for Teaching Excellence and Center for Faculty Leadership.

“Those numbers should demonstrate for them just how excited we are to have them here and just how friendly our campus and community really are,” said Diana Ashe, director of the CTE and CFL. “They have joined a thriving university where their teaching, research, and community engagement will be valued. We welcome them aboard!”

Sabrina T. Cherry, assistant professor of public health studies, admitted some apprehension about being new to the faculty roster, but orientation eased her qualms.

“It meant a great deal to have deans, established faculty members and other personnel offer us a personalized welcome. What a great way to start my time at UNCW,” she said.
